We are crossing the finish line at our pop-up philanthropy, Race2RecoverNYC.com and we have achieved our goal of putting displaced New Yorkers into rooms left vacant by would-be Marathoners.
As the weekend draws to a close however, it becomes clear that cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy is a marathon, not a sprint.
A one-night hotel stay provides only short-term relief, and there are many people that have much longer-term needs. For the New Yorkers still in need of shelter, please refer to our resource page, and may you find your way home very, very soon.
While we love facilitating the matching of rooms with the people who need them, our full-time jobs resume on Monday and the need for housing greatly exceeds our day-to-day bandwidth. That said, we continue to accept in-kind corporate donations to help the large number of people already in our database.
In closing, we want to thank the runners and hotels that participated in this effort. Your endless generosity humbled us and made this entire endeavor possible.
